In today’s society violence is everywhere. We see it on television, the hottest new movies, even at the push of a button on your latest technology. At one point people would gasp at the sight of someone’s blood on a screen, but now it is almost anticipated. Violence has become such an epidemic and it only continues to rise. Though everyone claims to love seeing the neighborhood fights and boxing matches, there are some people who still decide to stand up for what they feel is right. A random man breaking up an altercation between two young men, did just that.
A 4 minute video that was posted on Twitter, had timelines going wild. After the footage of two teens fighting for 20 seconds, a man abruptly steps in and puts it all to an end. As kids surrounded the two laughing at their pain and anger, the random man made sure to point out just that. “Everybody with your phones out, all y’all, you’re the real cowards—record that too. ” At that moment they then began to realize how foolish the whole thing may have been. Other teens began to go home, with some still lingering, hoping for more action. After nearly 3 minutes of tension with the man in the middle, he finally got the two young men to shake hands and make up. He encouraged the two to be smarter and remember what actually matters, as well as persuaded the other teens to stop fighting and encouraging this behavior as well. “Yall are men — start acting like it.”
Though this may not seem like such a big deal to some, this video made the random man an internet sensation. It did not take long for tweets to double in numbers and even had celebrities giving it attention. Basketball player Lebron James tweeted out to his followers “So dope!!! #Salute the homie who stepped in and spoke real to our young generation. We all need a word or 2 to help!” It goes to show that sometimes a little guidance can go a long way. With the world only getting worse with gun violence and murder, a promotion for peace is always appreciated. Don’t ever underestimate the power of your own voice, for it can travel a long way.
